CAN NURSE PRACTITIONERS WRITE PRESCRIPTIONS?
Yes, MDs, DNPs, and NPs can all write prescriptions for medications. NPs and DNPs may NOT write prescriptions for Schedule I and II Controlled Substances such as fentanyl or oxycodone.
CAN NURSE PRACTITIONERS PROVIDE PSYCHOTHERAPY?
Yes, MDs, DNPs, NPs, Psychologists, LCSWs, and LPCs are licensed to provide individual, crisis, family and group psychotherapy and counseling.
WHAT SUPERVISION DO THE NURSE PRACTITIONERS RECEIVE?
Texas Law requires that each NP have a "Supervising Physician" that delegates prescriptive authority. The Physician and NP meet regularly to review cases. All of our providers collaborate on the care of UBHC patients. The MDs are always available for immediate consultation.
CAN I RECEIVE MY LONG ACTING INJECTION (LAI) AT THE CLINIC?
Yes, we administer the LAIs Invega Sustenna, Invega Trinza, Abilify Maintena, and Aristada at our clinic. You may also receive your injection at your pharmacy if they provide that service.
CAN I GET A PRESCRIPTION FOR XANAX ?
We attempt to manage anxiety symptoms with non-habit forming medications following the American Psychiatric Association Guidelines.
CAN I GET A PRESCRIPTION FOR ADDERALL OR RITALIN?
We attempt to manage Adult Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) symptoms with non- controlled substance medications.
