Board Certified Psychiatrists pass periodic examinations by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELOR


LPCs receive a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology or Counseling. They complete    >3000 hours of supervised assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with    mental illness and pass a clinical exam to be licensed by the    Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors.


Susan Mercado MA LPC   

 >20 years of experience working in inpatient hospitals, partial programs, outpatient   hospitals, community mental health clinics, mobile crisis response teams and private practice settings. Completed education at St Mary’s University. Fluent in Spanish.

LICENSED CLINICAL SOCIAL WORKER


LCSW’s Receive a Masters Degree in Social  Work and complete >3000 hours of supervised  assessment, diagnosis and treatment of   patients with mental illness and pass a clinical exam to be licensed by the    Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners.

                            NURSE PRACTITIONERS


Nurse Practitioners attend 4 years of college to obtain a Bachelors of Science in Nursing and complete additional 2-3 years of education to obtain a Masters of Science in Nursing.  Psychiatric NPs complete additional training internships to specialize in diagnosing and treating psychiatric disorders.  Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNP-BC) are required to pass a State Licensing Exam and receive their Board Certification from the ANCC – American Nurses Credentialing Center.
